For her performance in the Sanford Pentagon Tournament, Senior, Claire Mellegaard has earned this weeks Farmlife Creamery Athlete of the Week! Starting in the front row against MVP, she then transitioned to the backrow, and eventually in the championship against MVP again wore the Libero jersey for the Rustlers. On the day, Mellegaard tallied 50 digs and 3 aces to help push the Rustlers to a Championship win. Mellegaard said, “Winning the tournament! It was the best feeling to come back and beat MVP for the championship,” has been the highlight of her season so far. “I'm most proud of our chemistry and how we work together as a team. The time we've put in to get to this point is starting to pay off and it's even more special when we have fun doing it!” This chemistry and attitude has been apparent in the Rustlers recent victories, playing a very long 12 hour day and still smiling! When asked about how she keeps the team motivated when things get difficult, Claire said, “Encouragement! No matter how good or bad something is going, lifting each other up is the best way to stay motivated.” The Rustlers currently 15-7 are rolling on a 5 match win streak right now, looking to advance that against the Freeman Fliers on Thursday at home. Claire’s advice to the girls who are getting ready to start volleyball was this, “Don't be afraid to ask for help! And often the best thing you can do is watch and learn, whether it's just the varsity games or even college level.”
